We have some great events this February!
This Saturday 2/11 is the Alley Cute! See previous post for details
On Sunday 2/12 we’ll be down at the Jack London farmers market from 10-12 doing demonstrations of how to fix a flat tire. Come say hello! There will also be lots of other bike-related event to check out. Bay Area Bikes will be doing bike check-ups from 10-2, and you can test drive their Yuba cargo bike!
Saturday 2/18: 2-5 PM – Our monthly women and trans shop hours. Come wrench in a safe and supportive environment! $5 suggested donation but no one turned away for lack of funds.

Spokeland is hosting an “Alley Cute” Bike Race on February 11th!
It’s a pairs race (no one races alone!)
So bring a partner, homie, loved one, buddy, friend, etc.
Checkpoints will be fun-filled, goofy good times. Let’s have a great time and get on our bikes!
Registration at 2pm at
Edoff Memorial Bandstand near Lake Merritt
Race @ 3pm!
Cost is $5 – $10 FOR EACH RIDER donation. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
All bike types, skill levels, ages and folks welcome!
Bring a bag, lock, helmet and P.M.A.!!!
Race proceeds benefit Spokeland Bike Co-op.

Our second volunteer orientation is this Sunday, 1/29 from 6-7 PM.
Similar to last time, we’ll be going over safe space guidelines and rules and showing folks around the shop. We’ll also be running a quick “bike check-up” workshop. This is great information for when you’re volunteering at the shop, maintaining your own bike, or considering buying a bike from Craigslist.
We’ll be running volunteer orientation every other week from now on, so check the calendar for details!

Are you interested in volunteering at Spokeland? Well here is your chance!
This Sunday, (1/15/12 from 6-7pm), we will be hosting our first official volunteer orientation. We will give interested volunteers safe space, general rules, and culture information as well as assess skill level and establish a foundation to teach further skills. Tell a friend and we hope to see you this Sunday!

December 3rd: Phat Beets Market
We’ll be at the Phat Beets farmer’s market this Saturday! We’ll have a stand and basic tools, so if you are doing your shopping you can also give your bike some love. Check out the great food justice work the folks over a Phat Beets are doing: http://www.phatbeetsproduce.org/

Need to get rid of some parts laying around your house? Come sell them at the Spokeland Parts Swap!
Need some used/new parts on the cheap? Buy them at the swap!
Time: 12-5 (vendors set up between 10 and 12)

Registration is AT THE PORTS where we had our last two races (NO mosswood this time) from 7-8pm.
Racing starts at 8pm! Afterparty to follow!!
$5 – $10 donation for Sprint
$10 – $20 donation for Cargo Race
As always, the speed category will have men, women, and trans brackets. One winner from each!
NEW CARGO RACE!!!! How fast can you go with 100lbs of cargo
(rider must provide own method of weight transport)
There will only be one winner from this category! Prize will be a sweet bag from our friends over at Rickshaw.

Interested in learning to fix and maintain your bike? Sign up for our three class mechanics course! Over the three classes you will progressively learn how to perform a shop quality “Full Tune-up.”
Classes is capped at 6 students, so you’ll get tons of hands-on instruction!
